Is Halloween been something that has always been celebrated in your country? In New Zealand we've only just started celebrating it Halloween and its mainly come from the USA influence with our students! Its not something traditionally that we have focussed on...

No, we celebrate it only at schools. It is the teachers' idea to show the traditions of English speaking countries in such a way. Frankly speaking our students like it very much. Now we have got friends in New Zealand and I think we'll organize something about your country. What is the main holiday in your country?

I think the main holiday is the Christmas one. We have a holiday that is New Zealand's special holiday called Waitangi day but we don't do anything other than have a day off work!

I too noticed that schools around the world have started celebrating Halloween. I find this quite interesting because in the United States there has been some pressure to not celebrate Halloween anymore because of the perceived relationship with the occult. I happen to love the holiday myself! Why do your students like it? I think we all like to pretend to be someone else sometimes.

Halloween party is just a fun for our students. It is something unusual. They like to make fancy dresses and pretend to be some character.

That's why our students enjoy it too but when I was younger nobody really did it, and its interesting to watch it develop. I think the strangest festival we would have is that we celebrate Guy Fawkes night on November the 5th. Its an English tradition thats really got nothing to do with New Zealand...
